平湖人民广播电台、平湖电视台同时建于1989年1月，1998年与平湖有线电视台（筹）合并为平湖广播电视台，并与平湖市广播电视局实行"局台合一"的管理体制。2005年4月，按照上级的统一部署，平湖市广播电视台从原市广播电视局中分离出来，作为市委管理的正科级事业单位，对外保留平湖人民广播电台和平湖电视台的呼号。下设部门包括：办公室（镇街道广电总站）、总编室、物业管理科、计划财务科、新闻中心、广播节目中心（广播频率）、经济资讯中心（新闻综合频道）、电视节目中心（生活服务频道）、技术中心、网络中心。
