根据中共四川省委、四川省人民政府《关于市（州）、县（市、区）人民政府机构改革的意见》（川委发〔2009〕25号），中共四川省委办公厅、四川省人民政府办公厅《关于转发省委编办等5部门〈关于加快推进市县两级文化广播影视新闻出版等部门职责整合和机构合并组建工作的意见〉的通知》（川委办〔2012〕24号）和中共理县县委办公室、理县人民政府办公室《关于印发〈理县文化体育广播电影电视新闻出版机构整合方案〉的通知》（理委办〔2012〕70号）文件精神，按照政事分开、管办分离的原则，设立理县广播电视台，为县人民政府直属正科级事业机构，业务受县委宣传部、县文化体育广播影视新闻出版局指导。
