大同电视台于1983年底开始筹建，1984年5月1日试播出，同年10月1日正式播出。1993年大同市和雁北地区合并后改称大同电视一台，原雁北电视台改称大同电视二台。2000年大同电视一、二台合并，2002与原大同有线电视台实施整合。
