On June 1, Unión Continental Latinoamericana, also known as Canal U in Uruguay, launched a new channel called UCL, Un Canal Latinoamericano (A Latin American Channel). According to information provided by the company, the channel “reflects the identity of Hispanic America and aims at fostering and promoting cultural values and freedom of speech.”
UCL has entered into distribution agreements with Cablevisión, Supercanal and Red Intercable (Argentina), Cablevisión and Vera TV (Uruguay), Tigo and Copaco (Paraguay), Totalplay (Mexico), Cable Onda (Panama), Compuzip (Dominican Republic), Red Intercable (Colombia) and TV Cables (Chile). In addition, content may be viewed live on the channel’s website: www.uclplay.com.
Among the programs available to viewers, it is worth mentioning OEA News (an Organization of American States news bulletin), content produced by international channels such as France 24, Deutsche Welle en Español, RFI (Radio France Internationale) and RT en Español (Russia Today), as well as shows produced in Paraguay, Panama, Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia.
