开封电视台始建于1985年9月1日，座落在开封市高新技术开发区。开封电视台采取无线发射和有线传输两种方式传播电视信号，无线发射采用新建的中原第一塔、塔高268米，发射功率10千瓦，覆盖半径80-100公里，覆盖面积3万多平方公里，收视人口约3000万。>有线传输遍及5县5区，收视人口约500万。
开封电视台开办三套电视节开封目新闻综合频道、开封生活图文频道和开封公共频道。分别播出时政、经济、科技、文化、教育、法制、服务、综艺、戏曲、影视剧等节目内容。每天播出总时长达50小时，主要自办栏目有《开封新闻》、《菊城报道》、《魅力开封》、《关注》、《戏曲大舞台》等。
